It's the Journey, Not the Destination

I'm not sure how much I buy this theory. There are days when, if given the opportunity, I'd skip directly to Destination and leave the Journey for some other suckers with better attitudes.

But today, I'm firing up a blog. What could make me inch a toe into the vast blogging pool so many years after others have mastered the blogging high dive? Accountability.

My daughter is entering her teenage years with a bit of extra baggage (of the saddle variety) and has expressed some vague notions about learning more about health and fitness this summer. I think this is wonderful! She is lovely and not overweight like, Has-My-Own-Show-On-Discovery overweight. But she has some baby fat still clinging and I love that she took the initiative to ask me about ways to live healthier.

After all, I know all about this, right? Maybe not. As I was thinking on ways and means I could approach her with, I realized that though I enjoyed a petite stature in my teenage and young adult years, I've actually been pretty, uh, voluptuous, shall we say, in the past ten years. Give or take. Ahem.

So it appears that KNOWING things and actually APPLYING that knowledge are two different endeavors altogether. And so here I am. Not that typing on a blog will burn very many calories, but I find that lifestyle changes, habit adjustments are as much mental as physical and so a place to record thoughts, complain about it, and rejoice over it is probably as necessary as that dreaded treadmill I've been hiding in the basement.

So here it is. Daughter deserves a partner who knows what she's talking about, not one who assumes the position of Lazy Drill Instructor and lies about sipping Coca-Cola and directing said daughter to do as I say, not as I do.

I can't talk about the square footage of my rump all the time, so you'll likely get a lot more story about many other things as well.

Wish us luck - and a journey fraught with love and courage - we will need it!
